Hey all! If you can post exactly where you are able to receive 1580 AM from, that would be great information to have on-hand. For instance, Dave, can your receive the broadcast in Gehenna? Doug, how about where you are?

Also, when driving around, if you discover roughly where the edge is between where you can get the signal and where you can't, post what road you are on and the crossstreet where the signal comes in strongly enough to hear, or if on a highway, the nearest mile marker will do.

I'm on the west side, near Hilltop/West Gate/Camp Chase. Signal is loud and clear on my home stereo system and also in my car. I'll be running errands this afternoon, so I'll be all over Columbus. I'll let you know how it goes. :)

I'm getting a good signal at home in the Kenney Road and West North Broadway area. The car picks up better reception. I made a short trip to the Giant Eagle on Tremont Avenue in Upper Arlington.

I went out to my car today around 1:00 PM and listened for half an hour - surprisingly, the reception on my old car stereo in a car garage in the Polaris area wasn't too bad, especially compared to when I used to listen to AA on 1230. I'll listen on my way back home in the Short North this evening.

Loud and clear from Morse and 270.

Hope to give you a report from German Village later today.

While driving from Polaris Parkway to I-71 on Gemini Parkway, the signal got very spotty right around Lyra Drive, but then came back very well by the time I was on the ramps getting onto I-71 South. Loud and clear the whole way down I-71 South onto I-670 West onto Fourth St.

Started here on the west side around 1:00pm today. No problems at all. Drove to Grandview, up to Worthington and over to Schrock Road. Loud and clear the entire time. Around 4pm, I traveled west on 161 to Sawmill Road. No problems until I got past 315, then I started to hear another signal in the background. Headed down to Bethel Road around 5pm and it was the same. Headed down Riverside Drive and as I traveled over to the west side, the signal got weaker (around 6pm). I'm at home now, and the signal isn't quite as strong as it was this morning.

I am in Clintonville and was all around the OSU area today and reception in my car was fine. I will be up in the Dublin area tomorrow and will try to go to where I used to lose the signal when it was on 1230. I'll let you know tomorrow.

Most of OSU is ok on foot. It varies slightly from building to building, but overall it's fine. I'm in Clintonville as well and it comes in fine

    HI ALL!

Congrats on getting some Prog Talk back in COL OH!

Here's the FCC info on WKVO-AM (but I think this is from the old transmitter site shows owner as BERNARD OHIO LLC - is that right?)
It shows WKVO-AM as a 3.2 KW Daytimer here:
    http://www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/amq?list=0&facid=22341
    And the nighttime signal here:
    http://www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/amq?list=0&facid=22341

    40° 03' 42.00" N Latitude Power: 3.2 kilowatts (kW) Daytime
    82 ° 56' 41.00" W Longitude (NAD 27)
(Close to a golf course near Westerville?)

If this is NOT the current transmitter Site Location, does anybody know where the new transmitter site is? General area is fine (NE, SW, on top of COL DISPATCH Bldg, etc.) Don't want the troglodytes throwing rocks at the towers!

I guess this IS the new transmitter site!
    from the Columbus Post...
    http://www.columbuspost.com/news/headlines173.html

In an effort to improve the station two years ago, Stop 26-Riverbend borrowed approximately $12 million from D.B. Zwirn and was to pay back $15.6 million.
Following the acquisition by D.B Zwirn, Bernard Ohio was created to run the station, under the leadership of Bradley Scher. As of presstime, calls by the Columbus Post to D.B. Zwirn had not been returned.
WVKO's three current transmission towers, located in Upper Arlington, are scheduled to be shut down in June.

The site above is NOT in Arlington and only has TWO TOWERS!

I hereby propose the First Annual WVKO-AM Golf Outing! :-)

    Bill O Rights Man,

A WVKO-AM Golf Outing is a great idea! We'll have to follow-up on that when things settle down. Do you have a suggestion for which golf course? I don't think it's a Country Club wine and cheese kinda crowd.

Well Cintonville and the Campus Area is great. Around the City Center not so great. E. Main Street is good. Groveport, Westerville Ohio is good as well.

I traveled to Dublin today across Route 161 from Sawmill over to Avery Road. Then I went north on Avery to Glick which is where I used to lose 1230. Reception was very good. There was only one spot of interference due to electrical towers. I then traveled east on Glick and across Powell to Route 315. Again, reception was very good. I went south on 315 back to Henderson and had no problems anywhere. So the northwest area of Franklin County seems to get excellent reception. Is there anyone from Hilliard? That used to be a problem for 1230.

I'm from Reynoldsburg. Sounds great from here by the High School. Driving to work in Lancaster was ok until I hit Carroll. Signal faded at about the split yesterday. Today, driving around on 33 around the Meijer store the signal is just fine.

Was driving along Georgesville Road from 270 to Broad St and it was reasonably good on my car radio. Unfortunately the reception isn't as good as 1230 was at my office near Boltonfield Rd, and 1230 wasn't that great (though it might be a problem with my office radio rather than the radio signal).

Hey Doug! I did a google map of the coordinates above and it looks like there's a golf course near the site! It's called Minerva Lake Golf Course, near Rt 3 & Rt 161. Maybe somebody can check it out. Summer's a long way away, but it can't hurt to get organized now.

Wine and Cheese indeed! I'd say beer, dogs and burgers is more like it! :-)

    BillORights,

You know, I kinda had Minerva Lake in mind before I asked for a recommendation. I played it 5 or 6 years ago. It's a decent course---18 holes. Not a par 3 course but it's shorter than most courses. Another course to consider would Bridgeview G.C. which is managed by Columbus State. It's a billy-goat 9 hole course. For some freaky reason that area has some steep hills. It's a fun course to play.

People will have to be on the lookout. Libs mostly hook to the left, correct? In my case, I never know if the hook or slice will show their ugly faces.

Sounds good in Plain City during the day. Not as great in the early morning or at night.

While driving along US-33 during the day, I got to around Lancaster before the signal was overpowered by another station but at night coming back the other way it wasn't until around Canal-Winchester when I could finally hear it clearly enough.

Just took a drive from the SW side (Hilltop/Westgate/Camp Chase) over to Grove City. Pretty clear the entire drive, even after 6pm.

I noticed that when I drive from Grandview to the west side in the evening, the signal gets worse just after I turn onto Fisher from McKinley, between the railroad tracks and the 670 overpass. That's when I get a weaker signal and more interference. It happens every night. I usually drive home between 6pm and 9pm.

I work out by Victoria's Secret HQ off E. Broad in Reynoldsburg near the Franklin/Licking County line and the signal has a some static, but not enough to deter me from listening. As I head back toward Columbus and get closer to Wagoner & Broad where Meijer & the new Target Plaza is, it gets much better.

I live in a northern suburb of Cincinnati and I've been trying like heck to pick up the station but with no success. I have Sirius satellite radio but their liberal talk channel is very disappointing. They recently replaced Stephanie Miller with some guy named Mark Thompson. Is there any hope for a better signal? During the day there is some gospel music station that is blowing WVKO out of the water. It's not adjacent interference from WCNW so I have no idea what it is. If there is no hope for the signal, does anyone here know of any rumblings about the return of progressive talk to Cincinnati or close enough for me to get a decent signal? I think Dayton needs one...

Radio Locator shows this directional pattern applied to a map:
    Daytime: http://www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=WVKO&service=AM&status=L&hours=D
    Night: http://www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=WVKO&service=AM&status=L&hours=N

Depending on where the overpowering station is, you might be able to use a highly directional antenna pointed at the WVKO towers: N 40.061666 deg, W 82.944722 deg. (As BillOfRightsMan pointed out). That might be hard to do on a regular radio. (Although the antenna inside is somewhat directional as most long-time AM radio listeners know.) But, if the overpowering signal is in the path, not much you can do to separate it from WVKO.

The web application works well if on the Internet: http://stream.wvko1580.com:8000/listen.pls
