Sean tells me the numbers are out for Dec-Jan-Feb, and not surprisingly, our start has been slow. It takes time to let people know we are here--and many people don't even touch the AM dial any more, since it has universally become "hate media." It's contaminated, and we have to let people know there is an oasis of reality at 1580.
Who have you told about WVKO? Watch for opportunities.
E.g. "I see you are an NPR fan. Me too. But when something boring comes on there, what do you do? Have you tried adding WVKO to your radio presets? Try it. You'll like it."
I have been creative with my emails. Sometimes it worked great. I emailed the editor of Outlook, and he did a full page spread on WVKO. On the other hand, I emailed every union I could find in Columbus, asking them to tell their members, and only one responded. But still, that's one.
The best efforts are often one-on-one. You know which friends may appreciate knowing about WVKO.
Do you attend an groups where you could stand up and make an annoucement? (Environmental, church, labor, political, social...etc.)
And why is this so important? A DKOS diary yesterday did a NEXIS of news last week. The two bombshell stories were the release of Yoo's memo, and Mukasy's inadvertant admission that Bush had missed a chance to prevent 9/11. Here's how the press covered it, in comparison to other stories:
"Yoo and torture" - 102
"Mukasey and 9/11" -- 73
"Yoo and Fourth Amendment" -- 16
"Obama and bowling" -- 1,043?!
"Obama and Wright" -- More than 3,000 (too many to be counted)
"Obama and patriotism" - 1,607
"Clinton and Lewinsky" -- 1,079
We get more hard news between the fart jokes on Stephanie, than anywhere in the so-called main-stream media.
One more thing. Jon Stewart said the reason the idiots get away with so much is because normal people "have sh#t to do." I think that means if we get an Arbitron survey in the mail, we are more likely to pitch it. Don't. Let yourself be heard.
